|Shit happens more than once to Mr. Gosling|
Ryan Gosling (Drive) is a squeamish private investigator that gets roughed up by a strong arm for hire played by Russell Crowe (American Gangster). Ironically, he later teams up with Crowe to search for the missing daughter of Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential). During their search through the high societies and bowels of 1977 Los Angeles, they encounter sarcastic bartenders, sexy hit-women, and the Mob. Will these "nice guys" make it through unscathed and save the girl? Will Gosling learn to keep his lunch down after witnessing so much carnage? And most importantly, will those poor people ever get to finish their dinner party after that dead body drops in and interrupts it?
My Prediction- With a nice balance between goofy humor and R-rated violence, Gosling's and Crowe's chemistry, and the cool look of the 70's, The Nice Guys looks like a sure thing. Picture it as a combo of The Good Guys TV show (which was canceled far too soon) and The Adventures of Ford Fairlane. Absolutely not a Piece Of Shit.
Mike's Take -
Ryan Gosling is an inept investigator to Russell Crowes take no shit enforcer character who are forced to become partners when a mutual client hires the both of them to look for her daughter. Think Lethal Weapon but Ryan and Russell are not super cops, they are bumbling, lucky, mediocre ass-clowns with no higher aspirations in life. Throw in Goslings inability to deal with death or violence on any level, Crowe's ability to perform violence, Gosling's character's daughter who thinks her dad is a wimp (which he is) and you have a movie that is pure Shane Black.
This movie won't be a piece of shit, in fact, I'm predicting it to be the sleeper hit of the year, but I've been wrong before. Don't disappoint me SHANE!
