Viola Davis (Disturbia) assembles a task force of supervillains to do the deniable dirty jobs that regular people can't accomplish. With the likes of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Deadshot (Will Smith), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and many others that are all lead by team leader Joel Kinnaman (Robocop 2014), they're sent on a mission to stop the villainous, Joker (Jared Leto). And they better all stay in line, or else their heads will literally explode. Tensions will arise, punches will be thrown, super abilities will cause chaos, and we even get to see a little bit of Ben Affleck's Batman. Robbie and Davis look like perfect fits to their respective characters, while everyone else needs a deeper viewing for us to see how worthwhile they truly are. I will say this, though; Leto's Joker comes off like a tweaked out mafioso that seems like he's trying too hard to stand out. Is that a fact? We'll know soon enough.
My Prediction- Without peeking into the other critics' unfavorable reviews of Suicide Squad, I can honestly say that I'm hesitant to have high hopes for this film. I've already voiced my concerns before (ad nauseam) about DC's current lack of effort with their big screen adaptations (Green Lantern, Man of Steel, BvS). But thankfully, Zack Snyder isn't doing this one. Instead, we get a decent director in David Ayer that has made some good movies beforehand (End of Watch, Fury). But he's also done some mediocre stuff as well with Street Kings (I liked it but...) and Sabotage. Either way, this one's a tough call. The hell with it! I'm going to lean on the side of boyish optimism and say that Suicide Squad will not be a Piece Of Shit. Please let me be right.
Mike's Take -
While generally avoiding spoilers for movies like this, I kinda cheated and read an article on a brief history of the making of Suicide Squad the movie and it seems like there were a whole lot of problems during production between the studio and the director. Now it seems that all the fanbois out there are trying to shut down Rotten Tomatoes because of unfavorable reviews. Ugh.
I don't have high hopes for this movie. DC Comics/Warner Bros. seem to only care about appeasing certain members of the community and it shows. Batman V. Superman was a colossal waste of time and effort and even the previous Superman movies were boring. How many times do we have to deal with an origin story (I'm looking at you Spiderman). I'm going into this movie with no expectations, just to enjoy and see a movie. But I predict it's going to be a huge piece of shit. Surprise, Surprise.
