During the bootlegging era, Ben Affleck (Argo) the gangster tries to muscle in on some southerner's turf. The scenes of relaxing boat rides through the Everglades, sexy dance hall sessions, and quiet pillow talk with Zoe Saldana (Avatar), are contrasted with blasts of shotgun and Tommy gun violence. The wisdom of smarter men tries to warn Affleck of his dangerous path, but will the warnings sink in before it's too late?
My Prediction- This looks like a more energetic version of Miller's Crossing (1990). But does it look smarter? Honestly, no. The style looks cool and the action is compelling. Live by Night will not be a Piece Of Shit, but that doesn't mean that its substance will hit harder than its action will.
Mike's Take -
Live by night, written by, directed by, and starring Ben Affleck, is a bootlegger gangster film set in Boston (of course) and Florida during the prohibition years. As is the norm, Batfleck gets the girls, the money and the fame, but at what cost, man! WHAT COST!
Live By Night won't be a piece of shit. Why? Guns, Money, and Booze, that's why. Prohibition bootlegging, shoot outs and Godfather-esque backstabbings will make this the movie to see in January. Or am I wrong?
